Jan-Michael Simon, chair of the United Nation Group of Human Rights Experts on Nicaragua, alongside members Ariela Peralta Distefano, and Reed Bródy present their report to the human rights council as Nicaragua announced it would withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council. The UN report accuses Ortega and Murillo, who also serves as co-president, of having ‘transformed the country into an authoritarian state where no independent institutions remain.’
