Los Angeles hospitality industry says tourists can help with fire recovery

From Reuters.

Los Angeles needs more visitors to help it recover from last month’s devastating fires, hospitality leaders told Reuters, noting that the city as a whole is safe to visit and that tax revenue from lodgings can help rebuilding efforts. According to LA Tourism, every $1 spent on a hotel room translates into an additional $2.12 in tourist spending in Los Angeles. 543,000 Angelenos depend on tourism for their livelihoods.

Some see Maui as a precautionary tale: Tourism is still in a slump a year and a half after the Hawaiian island’s deadly wildfires, leading the state’s governor to authorize $6.3 million to boost tourism-recovery efforts.
