New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani advocated for stronger gun control laws on July 30 at a press conference organized by labor union 32BJ SEIU to honor the victims of the Park Avenue shooting in midtown Manhattan.

Earlier that day, Mamdani paid a visit to the family of slain New York Police Department Officer Didarul Islam.

The shooting took place on July 28 during the evening rush hour on Park Avenue, which cuts through the center of Manhattan and is home to some of the nation’s biggest financial firms.

A gunman, whom police identified as Shane Tamura, 27, walked into the vast lobby of the 345 Park Avenue office tower and opened fire. He killed four before turning the gun on himself, according to police.
