“Another triumph for Alien.” This is a quote from a small child in a now infamous commercial for a toy based on the eponymous alien from, well, the Alien franchise. A toy that, unsurprisingly didn’t sell all that well because the Alien movies are about a bullet-proof penis-monster with acid blood that enters the world by headbutting its way out of a human chest cavity. It has, however, become something of a collectors item among fans of the series in the years since with surviving examples of the toy selling for upwards of a thousand dollars on the secondary market. In part because it represents a bizarre time in the series’ history when they legitimately tried to market Alien, an R-Rated film where countless people have their heads exploded, directly to children
