Menendez brothers’ lawyer filing motion to recuse district attorney, cites bias against clients

From Global News.

The Menendez brothers’ attorney Mark Geragos spoke outside a Los Angeles court on Thursday and said he and the family have decided to file a motion to recuse the Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman, citing bias towards his clients.

“This is about as righteous of a recusal motion of a DA that I’ve ever had,” Geragos said.

Menendez family attorney Bryan Freedman questioned Hochman as well, asking, “is he personally vested in this? Does he have a grudge against Lyle and Erik?”

“[Hochman] is not a victim’s right advocate, he is a predator,” Geragos said.

The brothers were convicted in 1996 of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for shooting their parents, Jose and Kitty Menedez, at their Beverly Hills home on Aug. 20, 1989.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman had opposed resentencing, which could make the brothers eligible for parole and possibly result in their release after 35 years behind bars.
