More Canadians want to join the military, but current members keep leaving

From Global News.

nterest has spiked in the Canadian military, with recruitment levels hitting their highest point in a decade.

But as more people walk in the door, thousands of enrolled members are deciding to walk out – even as Prime Minister Mark Carney has vowed to rebuild the Armed Forces and reduce our dependence on the U.S.

Numbers obtained by Global News show the retention crisis has worsened over the past year. Figures from the Department of National Defence show 5,026 left the military between 2024 and 2025, compared with 4,256 from 2023 to 2024.
