“Must never be repeated”: Nagasaki marks 80 years since US dropped the atomic bomb

From Global News.

A ceremony was held in Nagasaki on Saturday to mark the 80th anniversary of the day the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on the southern Japanese city.
About 2,600 people attended the event at Nagasaki Peace Park on Saturday, including Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and representatives from more than 90 countries.

Survivors have committed to the goal of abolishing nuclear weapons but worry the world is moving in the opposite direction.

The U.S. launched the Nagasaki attack on Aug. 9, 1945, killing tens of thousands of people, three days after the bombing of Hiroshima. Japan surrendered a week later to end World War Two.
