An HIV-positive gay man who fled Turkmenistan, one of the most repressive countries in the world, risks being deported, imprisoned, tortured and deprived of medical care, he and several nonprofits say. His location and identity have been withheld out of concern for his safety. "When my HIV status became known, I was immediately fired from my job on the same day and they wanted to deport me," the 30-year-old says. Emir’s identity and location have been withheld because of the risks he faces.
