From AFP News Agency.
On the first day of the new school year in Washington DC, neighbors, volunteers, and parents accompany children to school, offering support amid fears of deportation raids under US President Donald Trump. At one elementary school, community groups block traffic and cheer on students to deter possible law enforcement in the largely Latino neighborhood. “We are here to support each other,” says Selene, a Mexican-American organizer. “And this is a message for whoever is watching this. The community is here for you. Don’t be afraid.”
