Nikki Giovanni, poet and civil rights activist, dies at 81

Nikki Giovanni, the iconic poet whose words gave voice to the voiceless during the civil rights movement and beyond, has died at 81. Giovanni authored more than 30 books, including “Black Judgment” and “Gemini,” and earned a Grammy nomination for a spoken word album. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived.
