In Bengaluru, "India’s Silicon Valley", drinking water is running out. Climate change, droughts, and unchecked urban growth have pushed this high-tech metropolis to the brink.

But Bengaluru isn’t alone. Beijing, Mexico City, Barcelona, Melbourne, and Cape Town are among 10 megacities that could be close to Day Zero—the critical point when a city or region’s water reserves reach such low levels that the taps run dry. With global warming intensifying, cities everywhere are undergoing a stress test for survival.

However, in Bengaluru’s case, experts believe that water literacy—understanding and managing water better—can help secure the city’s future.
