From Global News.
Two days after a deadly nightclub fire killed 59 and injured more than 150 others in a Kocani nightclub, North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has vowed to enforce strict venue regulations to assure no such tragedy occurs again.
“Not a single venue that is not in compliance with legal minimal technical requirements will be allowed to operate,” Mickoski told reporters Tuesday, adding that an investigation is still ongoing.
Interior Minister Pance Toskovski Monday accredited the incident to “pyrotechnics used for lighting effects,” saying the sparks set alight “part of the ceiling that was made of flammable material.” The 1,500-capacity venue had only one exit.
Since Monday, thousands of locals have gathered to grieve the victims lost to the fire. Many angered teens have resorted to violence, using rocks to smash out the windows of a pub and attacked the house belonging to the same person who owned the nightclub.
