The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Markham, Ont., early on Wednesday morning.

York Regional Police responded after someone in the building contacted officers about a dispute in one of the units. Officers arrived to find a man attacking a woman, an SIU spokesperson said.

Officers opened fire on the suspect and a man and a woman were taken to a trauma centre.
