Ozzy Osbourne was “ground zero” for heavy metal: Musicians, fans mourn loss of Black Sabbath icon

From Global News.

From KISS co-founder Gene Simmons and rising pop-rock sensation Yungblud, to diehard fans and global music experts, millions around the world are mourning the loss of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne.

Osbourne died at the age of 76 on Monday, with no cause of death revealed. However, the ‘Prince of Darkness’ struggled with health issues since 2003 following a near-fatal quad bike crash. He revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2020 and paused touring in 2023 after spinal surgery.

Just over two weeks before his death, Osbourne delivered his last-ever live performance with the original lineup of Black Sabbath at Villa Park football stadium in their home city of Birmingham, England, on July 5.

One fan in the music industry — who also attended the final ‘Back to the Beginning’ concert — hailed the ‘Mr. Crowley’ singer as the “ground zero” for where the heavy metal genre began.
