Ontario Premier Doug Ford urged the federal government to fix Canada’s immigration backlog, seemingly reversing last week’s pledge that Ontario would issue work permits to asylum seekers.

"If you have a pulse and you’re healthy, you need to be working," Ford said.

Ford expressed concern about the country spending a "billion dollars of burden that falls on the taxpayers of Ontario," yet people are still waiting for their permits to get to work.

"We’re paying them to sit around…which is crazy," he added.
