Plastic waste could triple by 2060, UN says, as it tries to strike landmark deal

From Global News.

The United Nations kicked off a meeting on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland to try to complete a landmark treaty aimed at ending the plastic pollution crisis affecting every ecosystem and person on the planet.

Without action, the UN says plastic production and waste will triple by 2060.

This is the sixth time negotiators have met and they hope it will be the last.

Many countries say redesign, recycling and reuse can solve the problem, while others, and some major companies, say that’s not enough or do not want to see plastic production cuts.

Global’s Iris Dyck has details on what’s at stake.
