From Global News.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned an operation that saw dozens of federal officers in tactical gear, armored vehicles and on horseback descend on a local park Monday in a neighbourhood with a large immigrant population.
About 90 members of the California National Guard were also deployed for about an hour to MacArthur Park.
"To me, this is another example of the administration ratcheting up chaos by deploying what would look like a military operation in an American city," Bass said.
She characterized the situation as a "political agenda of provoking fear and terror" and called it "outrageous and un-American" to have armed federal vehicles in peaceful parks.
“What I saw in the park today looked like a city under siege, under armed occupation,” said Bass, who told reporters there were children in the park attending a day camp.
She added she believes the visible presence of the military aimed to terrorize residents. "I think the goal is to spread fear," she said. "It’s to terrorize Angelinos."
