During a visit to the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump was fact-checked by Fed Chair Jerome Powell after he claimed the overhaul of the headquarters cost $3.1 billion.

When Powell questioned where Trump’s figures originated from – noting that it was not from the central bank – Trump replied, “It just came out,” as he pulled a sheet of paper from his comment.

While reviewing the document, Powell was quick to shut Trump down, revealing the Republican leader included the cost of a separate building, which was constructed five years prior.

“It’s part of the overall work,” Trump retorted – to which Powell said, “But it’s not new.”
