Premier Moe warns China’s tariffs could devastate farmers as harvest begins

From Global News.

At a press conference on Thursday, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said a 76 per cent tariff on canola seed threatens the bulk of farmers’ income as harvest gets underway.

Moe pressed Ottawa for “more urgent action,” saying only talks between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi can resolve the dispute.

He warned it’s “impossible” to find another market with the same buying power as China, calling the U.S. and China equally critical.

Federal officials defended Canadian farmers, insisting Canada is not dumping canola and pledging new measures in the weeks ahead.
