Protests as new DC youth curfew zone takes effect

From Reuters.

Around three dozen police cars and as many protesters took to the streets within a new DC youth curfew zone along the U Street corridor that took effect on August 21, beginning at 8pm local time, running nightly through Sunday, DC police announced.

Trump said he would expand his crime crackdown beyond DC to Chicago, using federal powers to intervene in another city governed by Democrats, and threatened to take full control of Washington, rather than only its policing.

Saying without evidence that violent crime was out of control in the nation’s capital, Trump last week deployed National Guard soldiers and federal agents on the streets with a mandate to reduce crime. The takeover has been met with multiple protests by Washingtonians who demand a return to home rule. It also raised questions about the crime crackdown operation, after masked ICE agents were seen detaining multiple migrant workers.
