Charles Bonfligio came to Fort Lauderdale with just two suitcases and a dream to work in the car modification business. Now over 40 years later, Charles owns 10 automotive franchises in South Florida, has 150 operational locations with over 100 more on the way, and he generates a whopping $100M annually doing what he loves— car window tinting.
Charles’ venture into business ownership began as a child when he lived in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up with a father who has an entrepreneurial spirit and operated a clotting factory. His father taught him everything about running the business, from sweeping the floors to fixing sewing machines. He then opened up his own factory after graduating high school and he also co-owned a popular pizza shop around the corner from the empire state building.
Having realized these early ventures were inspired by others though, Charles always had the desire to start a business from his own passion in car customizations such as car window tints. At 21 years old, he decided to sell his Corvette for extra cash and move down to Florida to start out on a path of his own.
This isn’t to say that Charles didn’t run into a few hiccups in the process. He faced two major obstacles in his window tinting business when landlords in Florida only wanted to serve established brands and banks were hesitant to loan to startups. To overcome this, he pivoted into franchising, which allowed him to gain access to business loans and better lease locations.
