U.S. Representative Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the U.S. House Oversight Committee, said on Thursday that Democrats are pressing U.S. President Trump to release the complete "unredacted" files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in prison. In a surprising 8-2 vote, an Oversight subcommittee voted to subpoena the Department of Justice for the full Epstein files.
"A legally binding subpoena is going to be issued in the coming days, and the administration will legally need to share the full files," Garcia added.
GOP Senator Thom Tillis commented on the development, saying simply "Release the damn files," while Senator Josh Hawley added, "I want all the information out… I think the best thing to do is just put it all out there."
Meanwhile, Rep. Eric Burlison defended Trump, emphasizing doubts about his connection to Epstein’s "deviant" activities.
The vote comes after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi informed Trump in May that his name appeared in Justice Department files related to Epstein, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing senior administration officials.
