A 7.7 magnitude earthquake has struck Myanmar and Thailand, with a strong aftershock rippling across Southeast Asia. The epicenter was near Myanmar’s second biggest city, Mandalay. The military regime has called for donations of blood and medical supplies. A US analysis indicates that thousands of people could have been killed – the official death toll is currently 144. The tremor also shook neighboring Thailand, including the capital Bangkok. There the earthquake brought down a skyscraper under construction. At least 6 people have been killed and dozens of building workers are still missing.
