From Global News.
Waves of Russian missiles and drones pounded Kyiv overnight, igniting fires and killing at least eight people, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
In the capital’s central Shevchenkivskyi district, less than a kilometre from the U.S. embassy, a missile struck a residential area, and seven people were killed. Rescue workers pulled bodies from the rubble as smoke rose above shattered buildings.
Valeriy Mankuta, 33, a construction worker, was asleep when the blast hit.
"I woke up in the rubble. There were bricks on me, something in my mouth. It was total hell," he said.
Moscow has stepped up drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in recent weeks as talks to end the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, yielded few results.
