From Global News.
A sense of devastation washed over many Israelis on Thursday after Hamas released the bodies of four hostages, said to include a mother and her two children who have long been feared dead and had come to embody the nation’s agony following the Oct. 7 attack.
The two boys, their mother Shiri Bibas and a fourth hostage, Oded Lifshitz, were handed over under the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached last month with the backing of the United States and the mediation of Qatar and Egypt.
Hamas said in November 2023 that the boys and their mother had been killed in an Israeli airstrike but their deaths were never confirmed by Israeli authorities.
"It’s not just four people. It’s more than that. It’s the sense of helplessness, the fact that this country could not bring back these people alive," said Yosef Livne in Tel Aviv.
