Salman Rushdie’s attacker convicted of attempted murder, assault

From Global News.

A New Jersey man has been convicted of attempted murder and assault for stabbing British-Indian author Salman Rushdie on a New York lecture stage in August 2022.

Hadi Matar, 27, faces a sentence of more than 30 years in prison. A jury also found Matar guilty of assault for wounding a man who was on stage with Rushdie at the time.

Matar ran on the stage at the Chautauqua Institution where Rushdie was about to speak on Aug. 12, 2022, and stabbed him more than a dozen times before a live audience.

The attack left the 77-year-old prizewinning novelist blind in one eye.
