A Calgary family is shaken after a terrifying home invasion in the middle of the night.

Thieves broke into their van, stole the garage door opener, and ransacked their home while they slept— taking valuable items, draining their bank account, and leaving them feeling unsafe in their own home.

Laurie Massick recounts the chilling experience, while her son — speaking from Vancouver Island —describes the helplessness of being far away from family in a crisis.

“While we were sleeping. Thank goodness nobody came downstairs while these degenerates were in the house taking our belongings.” Massick tells Global News.

A neighbor shares how the criminals also targeted his vehicle.

Police have since arrested a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in connection to the break-in.
