From Global News.
Police clashed with supporters of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol outside Seoul’s Western District Court on Saturday. The clashes occurred during a court hearing to fight investigators’ request to extend Yoon’s detention on accusations of insurrection.
Police reported at least 16 pro-Yoon demonstrators were arrested and detained during the tense standoff.
“President Yoon Suk Yeol is attending a warrant review to protect the rule of law, even if it’s an illegal investigation,” one supporter, Lee Se-Ban said.
Yoon was arrested Wednesday, becoming the country’s first sitting president to be embroiled in a criminal probe, related to his short-lived declaration of martial law on Dec. 3.
