From Family Plot.
Winter is coming and you can protect perennials and shrubs from common winter problems.
As winter approaches, gardeners can protect perennials and shrubs by mulching, watering regularly, and removing dead or diseased plant material. For added protection during cold snaps, cover plants with blankets, cheesecloth, or old nursery containers, and consider using incandescent bulbs or Christmas lights for extra warmth. It’s also important to clean up the garden by removing weeds and doing any necessary pruning. After the first freeze, applying winterizing fertilizer can support root health and help plants prepare for spring growth.
