Suspect in custody after setting fire to Pennsylvania governor’s residence

From NPR.

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged with setting fire to the state’s governor’s residence early Sunday morning while Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were sleeping upstairs.

Shapiro, who is Jewish, had posted a photo of his family’s Seder table on social media on Saturday evening wishing his followers, "happy Passover and Chag Pesach Sameach!"

Authorities say the suspect, 38-year-old Cody Balmer, jumped an eight-foot tall wrought iron fence, evaded security, broke into the south wing of the mansion and used homemade incendiary devices to start the fire, before fleeing. Authorities said the governor and his family were in the residence at the time of the attack, but that they were safely evacuated and were not injured.

Balmer was arrested Sunday afternoon in the Harrisburg area. He faces charges of attempted homicide, terrorism, aggravated arson and aggravated assault against an enumerated person.
