Greek Prime Minister Kyrios Mitsotakis called on the Syrian government to protect ethnic and religious minorities Monday after a suicide bombing at a Greek Orthodox church in Damascus on Sunday.

“I want to express my disgust and rage over the recent attack on the Mar Elias Orthodox Church,” he said.

The death toll from the attack rose to 25 on Monday with more than 63 people wounded, the health ministry said.

The bombing was the first of its kind in Syria in years and comes as the new government tries to win the support of minorities.
