Tall ships from around the world parade up Amsterdam’s North Sea Canal, launching the five-day maritime festival which celebrates the city’s seafaring past. The event was first organised in 1975 to celebrate Amsterdam’s 700th birthday. It has been held every five years since then, except for in 2020, when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
