From Family Plot.
There are many soil test kits that claim to be able to tell you the nutrients in your soil. Unfortunately, most of them are very inaccurate.
Soil testing at home sounds like a good idea: easy quick results. We tested the four main kinds of home soil tests and compared the results against laboratory results. What we found was disappointing. Home-based soil test kits are unable to correctly read nutrient values in the soil. Sometimes they are wildly off. A bright spot is that they all are good at accurately reading soil pH. This video explains the methods of the testing and results.
