“That’s a lie”: Democrats call for Hegseth to resign over “classified” Signal chat

From Global News.

Several Democrats on the U.S. House Intelligence Committee called for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s resignation Wednesday as they questioned top members of President Donald Trump’s national defense team about a group text chain containing sensitive military plans that inadvertently included a journalist.

Addressing the committee, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard said Wednesday it was a “mistake” that Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg had been included in the chat on the messaging app Signal.

Rep. Joaquin Phoenix called the assertion that classified information had not been included in the chat “a lie,” while Rep. Jason Crow called it “outrageous” and a “leadership failure.”

Goldberg’s publication on Wednesday released further details from the group chat showing Hegseth had posted details of the strike, including times and weapons systems.

The committee had been called to discuss the intelligence community’s annual report on threats to American national security.
