In Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili was elected as new president on Saturday as demonstrators gathered outside parliament to denounce the vote. The sitting president Salome Zurabishvili has declared the vote illegitimate and has refused to step down. She has called the electoral process unfair. The new president has been elected amid a constitutional crisis and after weeks of mass pro-EU protests.
