The Tea app data breach: Leaked convos being used against its subscribers

A new controversy is brewing over the ‘Tea’ app, which was designed to help women date safely by allowing them to anonymously share their dating experiences and advice.

With debates already occurring over the app’s premise, a recent hack that led to the leak of more than 72,000 user images, as well as 1.1 million conversations, is now raising questions about the security of ‘The Tea’ and similar apps.

Technology analyst and journalist Carmi Levy joined Miranda Anthistle to break down the implications of the data breach, why even partial leaks can be dangerous, and whether sharing personal information online is ever truly safe.
