Trump admin sues Maine for defying transgender athlete ban

From Global News.

Weeks after a tense interaction between U.S. President Donald Trump and Maine governor Janet Mills, the government is filing a lawsuit against the state’s education department after it refused to comply with a push to ban transgender athletes in women’s sports.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the suit during a press conference on Wednesday, vowing to “continue to fight for women” after the education department refused to agree to a settlement on implementing U.S. Senate Bill S.9 – on multiple occasions.

“We are seeking an injunction to get them to stop what they are doing, and, we are seeking to have the titles returned to the young women who rightfully won these sports,” Bondi said.

In February, Trump threatened to cut off funding for Maine, to which Mills replied, “See you in court.” Now, Bondi says the administration is “considering whether to retroactively pull the funding they have received for not complying in the past.”
