On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration is considering returning 20 per cent of savings identified by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative to Americans.

Speaking at a meeting of global financiers and tech executives hosted by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund in Miami, Trump said he is also considering using another 20 per cent of the savings to pay down the federal government’s debt.

“Senate Democrats will expose Republicans reconciliation budget bill exactly for what it is, a sinister front for clearing the way to cut taxes for Donald Trump’s billionaire buddies,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, protests were staged in Washington as well as outside a Tesla building in Blue Ash, Ohio, to protest the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s involvement in DOGE, which has led to mass layoffs and firings within the government.
