Trump ‘doesn’t understand what NATO is,’ says former Trump advisor John Bolton | DW News

From DW News.

Decisions taken this week could put Ukraine on a path to peace in its war with Russia. Tomorrow US and Ukrainian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia for talks on what Kyiv is willing to give to Russia in exchange for a ceasefire. But will it be a just peace? Will Ukraine have no choice but to accept Russian demands? How much will depend on the US?

Those talks, however, will not include Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — despite the fact that Zelenskyy is in Saudi Arabia this week on a state visit. We do know that Zelenskyy has said that he’s ready to sign a minerals deal with the US. He hopes the deal will ensure shipments of US weapons along with sharing of US intelligence. President Trump has suspended both.

It has been two weeks since the Oval Office meltdown, when US President Trump and his Vice President berated Ukrainian President Zelensky for not showing America enough gratitude. The US suspended intelligence sharing and military aid for Ukraine.

Former Trump National Security advisor and US ambassador to the UN John Bolton talks to DW on why this ceasefire is a bad idea. He says Trump doesn’t have a plan for peace.
