U.S. President Donald Trump has been frustrated with how trade talks with India are progressing and believes his 25% tariff announcement will help the situation, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Wednesday.

"They [India] have one of the highest tariffs in the world now, they’re willing to cut it very substantially. But we’ll see what happens," Trump told reporters.

Meanwhile, Industry experts in India say the country would now be looking at alternative markets like the United Kingdom and the European Union, with whom New Delhi had already signed trade deals.
