US President Donald Trump has the power to fire anyone within his administration, the White House says as it fends off questions from reporters about his shock firing of 17 government inspectors. "He is the executive of the executive branch, and therefore he has power to fire anyone within the executive branch that he wishes to," Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt says of the move, which is widely considered to have been illegal.
