Trump hints tariffs may stay for Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday his administration hasn’t "had a lot of luck with Canada" in its trade negotiations, tempering expectations of a deal ahead of next week’s deadline to avert tariffs

Trump sent a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney on July 10 threatening to hit Canada with 35 per cent tariffs on Aug. 1. Currently, the U.S. has placed a 25 per cent tariff on all non-CUSMA compliant goods coming from Canada and a lower 10 per cent rate on energy and potash.
