From DW News.
Donald Trump has again upped the stakes on global trade. The US president says he will impose 25 percent tariffs on all goods imported from India.
He’s also threatened Delhi with an additional, unspecified penalty for buying energy and arms from Russia. The measures are due to come into effect on Friday, alongside tariffs on many other countries.
Trump has also escalated trade tensions with Brazil, imposing 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian goods – with some exceptions.
Trump says the move is punishment for the trial of Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro. The far-right ex-president is accused of plotting a coup to stay in power after losing the last election. Trump also imposed sanctions on the judge overseeing Bolsonaro’s trial. Brazil has insisted the case against the former president will go ahead unless prosecutors decide otherwise.
