Asked to comment on reports that he “waved off” a planned Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he wasn’t in a hurry to back military action against Iran – opting instead for negotiations.
“I’m not in a rush to do it because I think that Iran has a chance to have a great country and to live happily without death. And I’d like to see that, that’s my first option,” the Republican leader said.
“If there’s a second option, I think it would be very bad for Iran,” he added, echoing sentiments earlier in the week of a “harsh” response if Iran develops nuclear weaponry.
Israel reportedly established plans to attack Iran in May. U.S. and Iranian officials are set to meet in Rome to discuss concerns around their nuclear program on Friday.
