U.S. President Donald Trump commented Friday on trade negotiations with Canada, saying "We haven’t really had a lot of luck with Canada. I think Canada could be one where they’ll just pay tariffs, it’s not really a negotiation.”

“We’re working very diligently with Europe, the EU which covers a lot of countries. We have the confines of a deal with China. We don’t have a deal with Canada, we haven’t been focused on it,” Trump added.

The remarks come just a day after Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc told reporters he was feeling “encouraged” following meetings with both Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and American lawmakers.
