U.S. President Donald Trump sent special envoy Steve Witkoff to the Middle East to “save lives" and "end" the humanitarian crisis, the White House said on Thursday.
 
Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee plan to inspect food distribution in Gaza on Friday and secure a plan to deliver more food, as well as meet with local Gazans to hear firsthand about the dire situation on the ground.
 
Trump expressed his "displeasure" and "disagreement" with the leaders of France, the United Kingdom and Canada regarding their intent to recognize a Palestinian state.
 
"He feels as though that’s rewarding Hamas at a time where Hamas is the true impediment to a cease-fire and to the release of all of the hostages," said Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary.
