Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon announced Friday that the federal government would expand the already existing employment insurance (EI) work-sharing program to include employers in the not-for-profit and charitable sectors and seasonal employees.

He said the maximum length would be extended from 38 weeks to 76 weeks.

Mary Ng, minister of export promotion, international trade and economic development, announced also announced an investment of $5 billion over two years for Export Development Canada, to help Canadian businesses meet challenges posed by U.S. Donald Trump’s tariffs.
