Trump threatens to derail new D.C. football stadium #shorts

From PBS NewsHour.

President Trump is calling on the Washington Commanders to change the team’s name back to its former name, and threatening to scuttle plans for their new stadium in Washington, D.C. if they don’t.

In a post on truth social on Sunday Trump said "The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team.”

And he added, if they don’t, “I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington.”

Trump also demanded the Cleveland Guardians revert back to the Indians.

The Commanders and Guardians changed their names in 2020 and 2021 respectively after years of criticism that the monikers were racist towards the indigenous people.

It isn’t clear what means Trump has to stop the Commander’s stadium as Congress gave the city control over the land for the proposed development last December. The D.C. city council is now in the development phase for the project.
