People in Washington, D.C., protested at a police checkpoint on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, as tensions in the U.S. capital run high amid President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown.

A steady stream of uniformed soldiers arrived at the National Guard headquarters in Washington earlier this week to begin the deployment of troops called up by Trump to fight crime in the nation’s capital.
