Typhoon Podul shuts down parts of Taiwan, cancels flights as storm slams into island

Typhoon Podul brought strong winds and heavy rain as it slammed into Taiwan on Wednesday, but the island avoided any major damage.

Schools and government offices were shut down as the storm blew through on its way westward toward China.

The storm made landfall around noon on Wednesday, losing speed as it moved swiftly toward the Taiwan Strait.

Around a dozen flights were delayed or cancelled in affected areas.
